Can anyone tell me about taking online classes, through an online university. Are the degrees credible?

I’m thinking of going to school for my BS/IT degree at an accredited online University. Would this be worth my while?

Find out who accredits the university, that is a priority, also call employers in your area and ask them about about the reputation of the university.

On-line degrees from accredited schools normally hold the same weight as on-campus schools.

Some Online schools are credible. University of Phoenix. makes you work for the degrees but you know that you earned the degree by the time you’re done.

You really need to worry about accreditation more than anything. If it’s not accredited then it’s not worth the paper the diploma is on.

You have to be careful with these online universities. Some of them maybe a scam. Enroll in ones that have a physical campus. I saw a story about a fake online university and the site gave an address of where their office is. The reporter went to the address location and the office of that online university isnt there and has never been there.

Be careful with these online universities. Some could be fake. I think its safer to go to a university that isnt an online university. (ex. Harvard or MIT)

If you MUST take online courses, please take them under the auspices of a well-known and REGIONALLY (not nationally) accredited university. Many reputable state universities offer affordable online courses (and even degrees) these days. Please do your research before you waste your money.

Here is a list of regional accreditation associations. If the program you are considering is not accredited by one of these bodies, you should look elsewhere.

Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
New England Association of Schools and Colleges
North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges
Western Association of Schools and Colleges
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
