Matlab Introduction for beginners Part 1

This is Part 1 of a slide-based introduction to Matlab intended for beginners. It comes from a course I teach as part of an online Masters degree program in engineering (mepp.engr.wisc.edu Higher res versions of this video can be found at blanchard.ep.wisc.edu

nice video, learned so much more than my lecturer. all he goes on abt is FFT n stuff and i m like wtf?

  • 1GZFE:

i just finished C but im not yet ready for matlab.

    Hi

Does anyone know? how I can have a multicolour line plot in matlab.Say for Temperature data where just one set of data is being plotted agaonst time.Above? a certain temp I want the line colour to change.I cannot find a good example anywhere, someone please help.

i hate matlab with a passion… HATE IT

  • jakeblanchard:

That’s right. But if you add on/buy the Matlab Compiler, then you can.

  • lucirz:

so matlab itself can’t compile scripts into executable programs?

  • jakeblanchard:

If I understand the question, the answer is yes. You can buy a compiler and build executable files. I’ve never used it, so I can’t say any more about it. Look at mathworksdotcom

  • lucirz:

matlab is used only to do computations? but can it be used to built programs also like c++?

  • 2112dim:

@jakeblanchard thank you.I’ve used Mathematica for sometimes(before having trouble with registration) and found it ideal for symbilics.Matlab is a very useful program for programming, but I’d prefer Mathematica.

  • jakeblanchard:

If you need symbolic processing (that is answers that include symbols, rather than just numbers), then you can do it in Matlab, but Mathematica and Maple are far superior. However, if you are just doing numerical calculations, then Matlab is faster and has more features. So, I use Matlab for numerics and Mathematica/Maple for symbolics.

  • 2112dim:

In your opinion, which program is better,Mathematica or Matlab?I use Matlab but I think Mathematica is better.

  • KNOXKORNER551:

    WHATS LEVEL C

  • trousien:

man i wish i didn’t have to cover vector math for my midterm today… i got element by element crap and stuff and we just covered matlab in 2 weeks not really into matlab because i like mathcad more but matlab is more program based

  • webb221:

Can you beleve it? you already finished c

  • jakeblanchard:

I’ve posted a separate YouTube video called “Matlab Demonstration for Beginners” that does show the Matlab window.

  • 3bdullah289:

you should use the matlab screen not powerpoint slides …. its not helping …. thanks for you efforts anyway

  • HandOfQuaid:

    lol google KOENTMND

  • nmq3b:

what the hell does that mean?

  • shad79:

speaking from high level programming point of view c=c+3 doesnt mean c equal c +3 it means c BECOMES c+3, which i admit is silly but they had to make use of all the simple stuff.
if u want to use equal u have to say c ==d, i may be wrong but thats how i think it is

  • HandOfQuaid:

    eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • PhantomLord:

    you already finished C

  • PhantomLord:

    Yes!!!

  • jakeblanchard:

Yes, if you have experience with C or anything similar, then you can pick up Matlab fairly easily.

  • PhantomLord:

I finished C. you think I can do Matlab?
