I am in the military and am close to finishing my BA in Psychology. I am hoping to complete my Masters in Social Psychology before I retire (several years down the line), the only problem is, being in the military working on a degree the best way to do that is online. I’ve heard that people who get Masters degrees online are not taken seriously or that it is “frowned upon”. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Licensing
A university which offers a degree programme to international students is now required by the UK government to obtain a license. This new law recently went into effect, at the end of March, 2009. This Points Based System affects educational institutions because they are considered sponsors of students whose legal residency is outside the UK and therefore must obtain a special license to do so. This Tier 4 sponsor license is now required to be indicated on a student’s visa application form before it can be approved.

Since this is a new requirement, many universities may not be properly licensed. You must ensure that the university you are considering can offer this sponsor license number before you will be allowed admittance into the country for the purpose of attending school.

I am thinking about getting my masters degree and want to make sure that I don’t end up wasting my time and money. I don’t live close to a college and would prefer to take classes online due to my current schedule. Does anyone know how I can make sure that the program comes from an accredited and well ranked college? (a website) I already have a BS in Criminal Justice and plan to get my masters in that field. Any advice would be appreciated.
